A Pocketful of Principles
Religious Education at Home for preschoolers, kids, youth and adults
There are lots of phrases about pockets. Being "in the pocket" means being perfectly on tempo and flowing with the groove. When we're "out of pocket" we're unavailable or out of reach. We sometimes discover "a pocket of rest" or "a pocket of joy" in our day. Things we "put in our pocket" are tucked into our consciousness to draw on later.
May you find that A Pocketful of Principles helps you stay in the flow, connected, rested, joyful and equipped for all that life brings your way.
May it help you keep your UU faith close at hand and put to good use in your own life, at the ready whenever and wherever you need a dose of wisdom or hope, clarity or compassion.
Our Unitarian Universalist Principles help us discover and create a world of love and liberation.
Respect the worth and dignity of each person.
Offer fairness and kindness to one another.
You and I grow wiser and brighter together.
Goodness and curiosity guide our search for truth.
By listening deeply and deciding together, we make better choices.
I join you as we work for peace, freedom and justice,
Value and care for the web of life that connects us to all,
and Build the Beloved Community, free of racism and oppression.

Our hope is that these lessons, songs, stories, activities and articles will give you new ways of understanding our 8 Unitarian Universalist Principles, so you can "put them in your pocket" and pull them out when you're in need of guidance, inspiration or encouragement. Our Principles are agreements we make -- not a creed or dogma, but guiding stars to remind us of our values and of how we aspire to show up in the world, in our relationships with our neighbors and communities, and in our daily interactions with those closest to us.
